Online pet stores with delivery in Malta
I don’t drive, so when buying things like cat toys and cat food for my princess, Kinnie, I’ve always relied on local pet shops delivering to my apartment. Cat trees, new litter boxes, or even wet food tins can be heavy and there isn’t a really well stocked pet shop anywhere in easy walking distance, so it’s so much easier to order my pet supplies online and have them delivered to my door in Malta.
I’ve also done a lot of comparisons recently and local stores are not only better because delivery in Malta is much faster than some international online pet stores, but I was surprised to find that many things were actually considerably cheaper if purchased here in Malta.
So here is a nice list of online pet shops in Malta that deliver to your door.
PetShopMalta - set delivery days depending on your location.
Royal Pet Store - generally deliver within 2-3 days, even right now.
Pet Studio Malta - good selection but you can’t order online. Can contact them and arrange delivery for large items.
PetShopMalta
✔️ Delivery days depend on location
✔️ Free delivery over €50
✔️ Great selection of higher grade food brands
✔️ Can order and pay online
❌ Delivery a little slow right now
❌ Use a lot of plastic bags
This is the online pet shop in Malta that I usually use for home deliveries. They have a great selection of really top quality pet food. I used to feed Kinnie the usual crap you find in the supermarket- Whiskers and what have you. But a bit of research showed me that these popular brand names are actually pretty bad for your pets. They are often recalled due to harmful levels of certain ingredients and focus more on being cheap and addictive rather than nourishing.
But, the better quality food can be a bit harder to get hold of. You wont find them in the local supermarket but PetShopMalta is well stocked and does home delivery. For Kinnie I get Orijen dry food (it’s free range, organic, additive free and just insanely good food) and Applaws wet food tins. Both are considerably pricier than the more accessible brands but Kinnie adores them, they generally result in happier, healthier, longer living pets and I feel like if you can’t afford a good life for an animal, don’t get an animal.
PetShopMalta offers online ordering, you can pay online by card and they deliver right to your door. My only issue with them is that they deliver everything in plastic bags, never boxes. Delivery days will depend on your location, as they do certain zones on certain days. For example, my ‘zone’ usually delivers on a Tuesday so I tend to order on Fri/Sat and know I’ll have it by Tuesday. But they must be experiencing large demand right now as I usually have to pick a Tuesday 1 or 2 weeks in advance.
Royal Pet Store
✔️ Fast delivery
✔️ Can order and pay online
✔️ Free delivery over €50
✔️ Great selection of higher grade food brands
❌ Cannot pay online
❌ Use a lot of plastic
I used them for the first time recently. I had done a big order at PetShopMalta but the delivery date was over a week away and I was running out of Applaws wet food, so I did a quick order to tide me over until the big delivery from Royal Pet Store and the experience was OK. You can order online, which I love. I don’t really like calling up and explaining what I want. BUT you can’t pay online, which I hate. I never have cash and even though they take Revolut and card on delivery, it’s so annoying. I will forget that I didn’t pay already and when I go down to collect the order wont have my phone or card. It also means they can’t just leave the item in your hallway/lift for a truly contactless delivery, which I much prefer during this pandemic.
So, not my favourite store, purely because you can’t pay online, but must faster delivery, so if you need something fast, this is the one.
Pet Studio Malta
✔️ Great selection of larger accessories (cages, pens, bedding, trees)
✔️ Nicely designed website (compared to competition)
❌ Cannot order online
This place is insanely well stocked with really nice toys, cat trees, bedding and other accessories. But- you can’t order online! They actually have the nicer of the online pet store websites (the others are pretty poorly designed), with all the items, a description and even the price, but you can’t add to cart. They prefer customers to look on site, see what they want, then go in store to purchase. I have contacted them to ask about this though and they said that they will arrange delivery for larger items so if you need a big order, you can try giving them a call and seeing if they’ll deliver, but no guarantees. I wouldn’t even include them in this list but they just have the best selection of accessories (whereas the other online pet stores in Malta are better for food and small accessories) that it was worth popping them in just in case.
