My favourite shops and services in Malta
Today I wanted to spread the local love and share some shops and services based in Malta that I really love. This can be local wine stores, grocery and pet food shops, where I look for health and beauty treatments and much more. I’d love to hear your recommendations of local shops, services or restaurants that you love.
My favourite places to buy wine and spirits in Malta
The vinyard malta: especially good for wines and I get my Spiegelau glasses here. Very fast delivery (sometimes same day!)
Hansa: another excellent selection of wines and spirits.
Great places to shop in Malta
We have more and more shopping centres opening up. When I moved here Tigne Point had just opened and that and Bay Street were it for shopping. Now Sliema has expanded with more and more good shops, theres Shoreline mall in Smart City, Murcury Towers shopping centre in St Julians. But honestly, when it comes to trinkets and cool, vintage or antique items for the home there is one place I can spend hours scrolling:
FB marketplace for great old school home finds
My top grocery shops in Malta
petshopmalta: great selection of items for pets, I get all Kinnies food and toys from here. Earn points as you shop and reliable shopping dates per location.
Welbees is my only close local supermarket since Gala closed and I’m happy with it. I’ve not used their online shop though.
The best beauty and health services in Malta
Korean skincare from Peaches + Creme. Great selection, amazing prices.
Algena from Brenda Cammo, Sliema for nails
Lisa from Alfie’s salon, Gzira for nails
Dina from Harmony Touch for massage. I love her lymphatic face massage.
Zydre from Blossom Salon Sliema for facials
People & Skin for med-aesthetic treatments. They’re not aggressive with the upsell.
Fortedent is my favourite dentist
Banking and finance
Banking in Malta is so far behind the rest of Europe. Bank apps are the most basic you can imagine- at least with my bank - I cannot do a bank transfer within the app. I can just see a few days worth of statement (a few days delayed) and approve card payments. Savings accounts are non existent (at least not with an interest rate worth worrying about) and not many investment services online accept users from Malta. So I have found one local and one online service that get me through.
MeDirect for investing. They have both managed and solo options. They have some low interest savings options too.
It’s not local but mentioning as it’s so prevalent here, Revolut for daily spending and savings (high interest savings with Metal plan)
My favourite bars and restaurants in Malta
I don’t eat out much anymore, I’m very much into home cooking and meal prepping and I’m saving like crazy for my future, but when I do go out to see friends or treat clients, these are some places that I absolutely love.
Sciacca, Valletta: pricey but best steak on the island
Taproom, Valletta: mid level pricing, casual, small and cosy. Great Mediterranean food.
Tico Tico, Valletta: love their adventurous dishes, great for sharing.
Loa, St Pauls Bay: South American sharing plates. Not cheap, but good value for the quality and quantity.
Ginscal, Valletta: mezcal and tequila bar, good selection of both and some lovely cocktails. Tiny venue but I’m crazy about it.
Places that deliver to Malta
Then sometimes you just need something you can’t get on the island. Some of my most used services online would be:
World of Books for pre-loved books at great prices. Shipping to Malta is £5 and a little slow but you can get a used book in great condition for as little as £3 so it’s great to stock up
