Wardija Hilltop Village

Some friends and I recently spent a weekend at Wardija Hilltop Village, which is a self catering apartment complex upon a hilltop, between Bugibba and Mellieha. There are a number of apartments of different sizes, a pool, a reception and a bar; all surrounded by panoramic views of the sea and a host of greenery.

Wardija Hilltop Village: The Accommodation

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment (one with a double bed and one with two large single beds pushed together), which was very spacious, with a main bathroom, one en suite (both equipped with baths), a large kitchen and an open plan diner and living area. In the open area there was a 4 seater dining table, a 3 seater sofa and two squishy chairs. The inside was dated but clean, quality, comfortable and, most importantly, everything worked and that's really all you need when the views are as amazing as they are in Wardija.

The kitchen was well equipped with plates and glasses, mugs, pots and pans, cooking knives and so on. They didn't have any wine glasses in our apartment (but bear in mind, they'll all differ) so if you don't like drinking wine out of a tumbler (which we had no problem with!) then it may be worth taking your own or grabbing some plastic ones. Ours had a huge fridge and small freezer, toaster and kettle.

There are BBQs in most of the apartments, and at least one, but often two, big balconies to enjoy them on.

Wardija Hilltop Village: The View

Many people think Malta is completely barren and devoid of all greenery, and most people are wrong. There is plenty of greenery and nature in Malta, you just have to look for it, and Wardija is one of those places. From our apartment we had a beautiful view of Xemxija which is hilly and green, as well as an eyeful of the Mediterranean sea and a jam packed nearby bay.

Although you're very much 'out in the stix' at Wardija Hilltop Village, you are between a few bays and towns so at night the view is incredible too. There is nothing prettier than a lit up bay in the darkness, plus, as you're so high, you have an amazing view of the nearby festa firework displays!

Wardija Hilltop Village: The Pool

There is a pool that the residents of the apartments can use. It's a good size and incredibly clean- I was very impressed. The water is crystal clear, the space is utterly spotless. There are some shaded canopies, lots of space to enjoy the sun and around 20 sunbeds to relax on. We were there in the start of September and the weather was amazing (30+ oC) but the pool area was pretty much empty the whole time (apart from one or two others) and the water was refreshingly cool.

The main pool area is very deep, so you can get a really good swim in, as well as diving safely, but there is also a sectioned off baby pool that is much shallower, ideal for families with young children, or people just not confident in deep waters.

As well as being large and clean, the pool area also has lovely views of the surrounding greenery and distant sea views and is a great facility for the Wardija Hilltop Village to have. It's really quite windy on the hill, which keeps the heat bearable in the day, however it can get a little chilly at night, so pack a light cover up!

The group and I all had a perfect weekend at Wardija Hilltop Village and it was a real struggle getting back to reality once it was over. I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone in Malta who wants to do something a bit different for a few days and also for people all over the world who really want a relaxing but scenic holiday somewhere hot.

If you do book, make sure to let them know I sent you- they have no idea 'who I am' or that I'm writing this post, it just really makes me smile when companies get to hear of my recommendations <3

Make sure to like me on Facebook to keep up to date with my posts- many more on Wardija to come with more greenery, a guard pig and some incredible sunsets.
