I left my job recently and the girls were super kind and threw me (and another colleague) the most perfect leaving-do. They arranged a sunset in Malta cruise around the South of Malta with a local boat owner. He took us out for 5/6 hours in the evening and I loved every second. I spent a lot of it snapping away using my iphone (which I've since had to return, waaah!), my ipad and my Nikon and I have some lovely memories stored of this magical night!

We met at the marina around 6 and boarded, ready for our sunset cruise to begin. There were snacks and champagne everywhere!

Once everyone was aboard we popped the corks, turned up the music and headed South on our sunset cruise in Malta. After an hour or so, the sun began to descend and it couldn't have been a more beautiful sunset. Insanely intense, deep burnt oranges and yellows, glinting off the sea as the sun lowered behind the island, leaving a beautiful, quite exotic looking silhouette.

Once the sun had gone down on our sunset cruise, it left a beautifully pastel pink hue in the sky for a few more hours. We stopped around Delimara and turned up the music, stuffed ourselves with sushi, swam and danced our hearts out. The weather was perfect with only the gentlest of breezes; the water was as still as glass. Away from civilisation the night sky was as deep and dark as I've ever seen it in Malta, the sky alight with stars; it's so bright all the time in St Julian's that you rarely get a good view of them.

I have kind of a stupid and strange habit. It's a stupid habit as one day it'll result in tears but it's strange because it relies on a number of independent factors all occurring at once. It's quite a unique lifestyle that allows for this situation to occur often enough to become a 'habit'!

If I've had a few drinks, am around water and happen to have my Nikon camera, I always think it's a good idea to get in the water and swim whilst taking pictures. One day I'll end up losing the damn camera as it's really quite hard to get in and out of the sea whilst keeping a camera dry and even harder to swim whilst taking pictures. I always manage to get such pretty snaps (another here) though that afterwards I always think it was worth it.

I just love how still and smooth the water looks and the glass like way the ripples move outwards from my body as I attempt to keep afloat, whilst keeping the lens still enough to snap a photo worth keeping.

Being ever the photographer it's quite rare that I actually end up with any pictures of myself. Most of the time I'm OK with that as I'm just awkward and strange looking, but on this night Miss Finland took my camera for a while and I was over the moon with some of the candid shots she got <3 Here, I was caught snapping away and boring everyone around me with my favourite tips and filters. I distinctly remember showing Miss Spain how much I love the chrome filter on the iPhone 5S. I miss Miss Spain. I miss that iPhone!

Thank you to Miss Sweden for pushing me as far as I could go, without you I would still be that silent little mouse in the corner! Thank you for organising such a wonderful leaving party. Thank you Miss Finland and Miss Spain for being such joys to teach. Thank you Mr Spain for once asking me a question which resulted in me making a dream a reality. It's funny how just someone asking, off hand, "If you could be doing anything, what would it be?" makes you step back, re-evaluate where you are and put you on a path to where you should be.

And finally, thank you to my love, Joe, for always supporting me; listening to me moan on the bad days, putting up with my smugness on the good days. Helping me to be a better person- realising work isn't everything and understanding what really matters in life. For standing by me when I quit my job with no idea what I was going to do next and for showing me that happiness means more than money.

Here's to the next chapter!
