Malta International Fireworks Festival 2014: Marsaxlokk
On Friday 25th April a fellow instagrammer (@chrisbonafides) asked me if I was going to the fireworks festival. I've lived here almost 4 years and had no idea about this annual event. I love spontaneous nights, but being a natural planner, I don't actually execute them very often. However, when fireworks are involved, I am THERE. I rang the mister and our friends Elaine and Andreas and just about begged them all to come.
After a sticky few minutes stuck in traffic where two party poopers were considering turning around and going home, we made it to Marsaxlokk harbour. It was packed, but somehow I spotted an empty table right on the waterfront and we had the most perfect view. The food, unfortunately, was terrible but the company, the service, the show, the atmosphere- the important things- were all perfect.
The show was a competition between four firework companies from different countries- steyrFire- Austria, Brezac artifices- France, Pyrotex Fireworx- UK and St Joseph Fireworks Factory Ħaż-Żebbuġ - Malta. Below are some of the pictures from the evening- my firework photography needs a LOT of work, but I tried! There's even a little video if you make it to the end!
The show was opened with Austria and they were the perfect first act. All 4 of us (men included!) were awestruck with goosepimples and shivers once it was over. I had never heard the song 'Music' but John Miles before but it will forever fill me with happy memories and make the hairs on my arms stand up!
The third act was the UK company and I promise I'm not biased- they were the best of the bunch. The choreography (if you can call it that with fireworks!) was incredibly well planned, the music choices were perfect, the whole show was very symmetrical and dramatic- the sky was alight the entire time!
