Full List of Dog-Friendly Beaches in Malta
If you have a pet dog in Malta there is nothing more natural than the desire to take them swimming with you during the summer to help keep them fit and help cool them off. But it can be incredibly hard to find dog-friendly beaches in Malta. Take your pet to the wrong one and you could be faced with a monetary fine, which is enough to ruin anyone's happy beach day.Even when you find a dog-friendly beach in Malta, there are some rules and restrictions.
Keep dogs on a leash
Clean up after your dog
Officially, you have to keep the dog on a leash whenever they aren't swimming, but really you just need to make sure that your dog is calm and under control. So long as they're sitting with you when you're sunbathing and not running around bothering people then you should be OK. Then I think it goes without saying that you have to clean up after your dog and any dog-friendly beaches will have dog poop bins for disposal so do not forget your poop bags!

Unfortunately, any beach that is not on this list is not a beach you can take your dog to in Malta. Many people do still risk it, so if you're looking for a dog-free beach then I couldn't guarantee you'll find one, and if you're looking to risk it, you won't be the only one, but I'd not recommend it. Apart from the fine you could be issued with, you're likely to get some flack from people looking for a dog free zone and no one wants that confrontation.
Why Can't I Take My Dog To All Beaches in Malta?
I think it's a real shame that there aren't more dog-friendly beaches in Malta and so long as people keep their pets under control and don't become a nuisance to others, I don't see why there should be any restrictions. I think there is nothing cuter than a dog, big or small, diving gleefully into the sea and paddling around. They seem to enjoy it so much and when the day comes where I finally get my own dog, I will be taking them to the beach as soon as they're old enough! However, I've had a few experiences where dogs were zooming around the place spraying sand and water in everyone's face and even for me, a dog lover, it was incredibly annoying. There is also a big problem with dog shit in Malta, or rather, a big problem with people not cleaning up their dog shit. It's all too common for pet owners to stand by whilst their dog defecates on the street or beach and happily walk on as soon as they are done. It really ruins the area for everyone else and is such a small thing to fix!
