Evoke
This has to be my favourite photo that I have ever taken, and I take a lot. Just yesterday I took 170+, and I will post some of the other pretty ones soon, but this one is truly the cream of the crop. We went down to some flat rocks around 7pm for food and swimming. None of the boys wanted to swim and I hate swimming alone, but just as the sun was setting I got over myself and got in.
The sun had gone down behind some distant buildings but the sky was a deep burnt orange colour and this was reflected perfectly into the water, which was as still and smooth as glass and practically glowing from the sunset. I was swimming completely alone and the colour made it feel like I was like floating in calm, cool molten lava. It was probably the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
The picture doesn't quite do it justice but I think it still looks pretty fantastic You can see how smooth the water was, just one ripple from where I was treading water (trying desperately not to get my camera wet!). You can see how dark the sky was becoming and how the buildings around us were almost in complete darkess, apart from the burst of colour in the distance and the reflection of that colour in the water.
A friend commented on facebook how this picture made her want to get in the sea right now, and that the best pictures are ones that can evoke an emotion. So true and exactly what I try to do. I try to capture moments that touch me, in the hope that they might touch you too. I hope you like it :)
