I am in Venice. We started in Bologna. Next stop; Verona. I’ll do full travel diaries once we’re back, but wanted to share a snap or two. So far, having a lovely time. Didn’t fall in love with Bologna; it was the first time we experienced ‘coperta’ (extra cover charge wherever you eat, usually between €2 – €3 per person!) and being ripped off as tourists (we were charged €3 for a drink that was listed as €1.30). We’ve not kicked up a fuss, we knew this was a ‘thing’ in Italy, but we didn’t experience anything like this in Turin, so we hoped it was just hateful Daily Mail propaganda. Seems not unfortunately.
Aside from that, Bologna just isn’t a very pretty city. There are pretty parts, of course, but on the whole we found it looked tired and crumbly.
Venice, however, is beautiful, everywhere you look is a postcard perfect view, but somehow it doesn’t hold the magic that we hoped for. The food isn’t great and they’re also big fans of the discriminatory pricing. As charming as the place looks, and as much as I’m enjoying it, Venice, as well as Bologna, we wont be coming back to.
Verona… now it’s your turn to show us what you’ve got!
