I noticed that my posts recently have been a bit moany and I’ve mainly been complaining about anything and everything! I promise you I am not as down on Malta as it seems, I still love this place and luckily for you, todays post is going to be so happy you may feel as if a rainbow has thrown up all over you once you’ve finished reading.
This little cafe that I’m going to review today was found by accident. I had some friends visiting and took them to Valletta for a wander and was showing them The Pub- the infamous little watering hole where Oliver Reed saw his last day. Unfortunately The Pub was shut but this little gem was sat just a few doors along and the beautiful chocolate cupcake heart in the window drew us all in! Here we have Angelicas.
What greeted us was true delight. It was only a tiny little shop, with a bar area, a long dining table and some stools along the window. Then the walls- wow. The walls are covered with book cases that are adorned with culinary treasure. Chocolate cupcakes, brownies, strawberry & cream cupcakes, cookies, cherry and yogurt muffins, panforte along with jars of honey, pickled gherkins, chillies, wines, luxury hot chocolate sachets and so much more.
It is honestly like a treasure trove of sugary goodies. We were greeted warmly by a woman who I assumed to be the manager, she was very sweet, friendly and attentive. Jess and I each ordered a stawberry cupcake and Adam went for a chocolate brownie. Everything was delicious, the brownie was super soft and moist and the frosting on the cupcake tasted how I imagine fairy dust to taste- it was almost fizzy- like pink lemonade.
We were also told that they had the best hot chocolate on the island that was largely made up of actual melted chocolate- convinced, we went for the white one and it was lovely. I will warn you that you would only need one between two people, its a large mug and it’s so sweet that trying to tackle it alone will result in feeling very very sick! It was lovely and warming on our chilly hands, with hints of cinnamon and like drinking chocolate soup. It was thick, smooth and seriously tasty.
I would 100% recommend this little wonderland to anyone visiting Valletta, even their business cards are adorabe.
