Today I’m writing about one of my favourite places to eat in Malta, Amigos in Sliema. This is not fine dining like Meet or Zest and isn’t a quaint traditional Mediterranean eatery but I’d recommend anyone to pay a visit and I know you’ll be going back!
Amigos is a Mexican restaurant located both in Sliema and Paceville. The Paceville branch is actually the nicer of the two- it’s bigger and a bit newer but it’s in Paceville which is a definite down side! The Sliema branch is a little hidden away but it’s close to our apartment and still lovely inside, just a little smaller.
You can check out their full menu here but they do a wide range of amazing food, tacos, nachos, pizza, burgers and more. The food is literally amazing, and we’ve never had a bad meal there. The grande tacos are circular and only slightly smaller than a dinner plate, and you can also get a small which is half the size.
I’ve tried the Chicken Supreme, Beef Fajitas, Amigos Mixed Super Supreme, Classic Crispy Bacon and Tandoori Chicken. There are so many more but my favourite of these is definitely the Classic Crispy Bacon.
I’m not a beef fan so burger wise I’ve only tried the Crispy Chicken Fillet Burger and the Chargrilled 100% Chicken Fillet Burger- both were amazing. All the food is always succulent, well seasoned and very flavoursome. Excluding the pizzas and tacos most of the meals come with their thick steak cut chips and garlic mayo included in the price. I am addicted to this mayo!
The prices are amazing, the pepperoni pizza you see there is only 6.50. Often Joe and I will just get one pizza and a portion of chips to share- more than fills us both up and only costs 9EUR in total.
The decor is really rustic. Dark orange/red lighting, thick wooden tables and pews. Mirrors, Mexican themed art and funky lamps and lighting fixtures.
There are a few different ways to order, you can go up to the counter, order and pay all at once. You can order from a waiter/waitress from your table. Or they bring you an order sheet to your table where you mark your selections, take the form from you and you pay at the end. They also deliver (minimum order 12.50) which we have only once had problems with (public holiday, it took over an hour and was cold) but all other times it has been quick, hot and easy!
I’m not sure about the Paceville branch but the Sliema one definitely doesn’t have aircon which I really hate. It can be really warm and sticky in the Summer. The drinks are quite expensive too, I wouldn’t recommend ordering a beer, better to stick to soft drinks. Also they only do Maltese wine which personally I find horrific! They don’t have a wide wine choice which is a shame but to be honest I find a glass of water and a coke goes down perfectly with fast food!
Aircon and drinks prices aside I absolutely love this place, the food is filling and always delicious, service is generally great, food is so cheap, it’s a nice atmosphere to sit in and eat, they do take away and deliver- what could be more perfect?
If you’re in Sliema or Paceville I’d definitely advise you to try Amigos. It’s quick, easy, cheap and satisfying.
Have you tried Amigos in Malta yet? Are you a fan of Mexican food (or Europes take on it anyway!)?
