I’d watched a dynamic youtube video advert (watch here) for Crave and had read a number of good write ups so when Joe and I found ourselves in Valletta one afternoon we thought we’d give the waterfront cafe a chance. It looks really great so I was excited to try their food.

The inside decor is modern and classy, mainly white and purple with funky lighting and feature walls. The outside area is covered and has heaters to keep you toasty in these colder months, and you can sit right on the harbour waterfront. The menu is really innovative and presented like a newspaper.

We tried two tables and they were both wobbly but I couldn’t be bothered to try a third! The waitress was very helpful and popped a napkin under the table leg to stabilize it which was fine. The chairs were made of a thin plastic wicker and mine had chewing gum all over the seat, luckily it was dried enough that it didn’t end up all over my jeans but it just looked dirty and not really modern or comfy enough to fit in with the rest of the style.

I had a Mango Cosmopolitan to drink which was really tasty. Nice and fruity and not very alcoholic so was easy to enjoy. For food I ordered the chicken, guacamole, salsa, cheese, rucola and cherry tomato wrap.

But I actually got a wrap with chicken, normal tomato slices, cheese, iceburg lettuce and slices of avocado. No salsa, no guacamole, no rucola and no cherry tomatoes. It was edible but incredibly bland with no seasoning or sauces to add a bit of flavour. The wrap itself was a nice thin tortilla which I liked as you don’t get full up on bread, and can enjoy the filling- when the filling is 1. Tasty and 2. What you ordered!

Joe went for the Beats Burger and the burger was absolutely huge. He enjoyed the burger other than the bacon which was more like parma ham and more fat than bacon and the chips were cold, but he ate it all anyway!

So I wouldn’t really recommend the place for eating- the food was incredibly mediocre, quite cold and mine wasn’t even what I ordered. But I imagine the atmosphere is great at night time- on the harbour, lit up with purple lights and fire heaters. The cocktail list was huge with lots of unique mixtures and my mango cosmo was delicious so I’d definitely consider popping back for a cocktail evening, providing I’d already eaten dinner elsewhere!
